Brief summary, from the abstract
A high physical activity level in the first twelve years after total knee arthroplasty was not linked to a greater chance of needing revision surgery; active patients faced revision risks comparable to less active ones.
- Pooled across the studies, a high activity level showed no association with all-cause revision (risk ratio 0.62, 95% CI 0.24-1.63) or with revision for aseptic loosening (RR 1.33, 95% CI 0.34-5.24).
- One included study actually reported better implant survivorship in the high-activity group (odds ratio 2.4, 95% CI 1.2-4.7).
- Evidence base is small and observational: 6 studies (5 cohort, 1 case-control) covering 4,811 procedures, with no randomized trials, so wide confidence intervals limit certainty.
